Discover the United Kingdom's Motorsport Heritage

The United Kingdom is the global capital of motorsport. Around three-quarters of Formula 1 teams are headquartered within two hours of Silverstone, including McLaren, Aston Martin, Williams, Mercedes, and Red Bull, in what's known as Motorsport Valley. The British Grand Prix has been on the F1 calendar since the very first World Championship race in May 1950, when Silverstone hosted the inaugural Grand Prix — the race that started it all. The country has produced more F1 world champions than any other: Lewis Hamilton, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Jenson Button, and now Lando Norris, the 2025 champion. Outside F1, the UK runs Touring Cars, GT racing, hillclimbs, club racing, and grassroots motorsport at a depth that doesn't exist anywhere else on earth.

The heritage runs through brands that shaped the global car industry. Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, Morgan, Caterham, Lotus, McLaren Automotive, and TVR all carry British identity. The British sports car tradition — Lotus Elise, MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey — built generations of enthusiasts on the principle that lightweight and clever beats heavy and powerful. The Goodwood Festival of Speed every June and the Goodwood Revival every September are two of the biggest cultural events in the global motoring calendar, drawing 200,000+ attendees.

The driving country rewards enthusiasts. The North Coast 500 around the Scottish Highlands, the route through Snowdonia, the Cat and Fiddle and Buttertubs in the north of England, and the run through the Cotswolds and the Lake District have shaped enthusiast culture for decades.
