Zweiradmuseum Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Overview
A compact, club‑run museum showcasing post‑war East German and Central European motorcycles and mopeds. The collection occupies roughly 300 m² and features over 100 machines from makers such as Simson, MZ, IWL and Jawa.
Run by the Jürgenstorfer Oldtimerclub, the Zweiradmuseum opens seasonally (May–September weekends) and accepts group visits by arrangement. The site includes the Radhaus guesthouse/restaurant and is a short drive from Stavenhagen in the Mecklenburg Lake District.
What to Expect
Short introduction: The museum is focused on two‑wheelers of the GDR and neighboring countries, displayed in a single exhibition hall with signage in German.
Look out for:
- Extensive Simson lineup covering most 50‑cc models produced 1955–1990.
- Post‑war MZ and IWL motorcycles and regional rarities like Pannonia and TROLL.
- Period workshop tools, posters and restoration projects by the local club.
- Compact layout — many bikes close to eye level, good for photography (small photography fee applies).
Best way to experience it:
Visit on a weekend during May–September to catch regular opening hours; if travelling outside that season, call ahead to arrange a group visit. Combine the stop with nearby lakes or Stavenhagen for a half‑day outing.
Things to Note
- Seasonal public opening (typically May–September weekends); closed in winter except by arrangement.
- Small admission and a separate photography fee are charged (see official site for current rates).
- Limited on‑site facilities; the Radhaus guesthouse/restaurant is adjacent.
- Nearest rail connection: Stavenhagen; driving is the most direct option.
