Mercedes-Benz Driving Events Groß Dölln
Overview
Mercedes-Benz Driving Events is the official Mercedes-Benz driver training programme, run by the events company BKP GmbH of Unterföhring near Munich on behalf of Mercedes-Benz AG. At the Driving Center Groß Dölln it runs After Work Drift, an evening course built entirely around drifting: getting the rear of a Mercedes-Benz to break loose and holding the slide under control, in cars the operator supplies.
After Work Drift runs only at Groß Dölln. It is the one format the operator ties to this venue; the rest of its programme, race track and safety training among it, runs at other German circuits, with winter training on ice in Austria and Sweden.
Groß Dölln sits north of Berlin near Templin in the Uckermark. The ground was built in 1952 as a military airfield and used by the Russian military until 1994, and the operator now calls it Europe's largest driving safety centre with an integrated race track. The course suits licence holders who want an evening of car control training.
What to Expect
- After Work Drift is a half day course in the evening: a safety briefing first, then driving training across stations that all work on lateral dynamics, meaning how a car moves and slides sideways.
- The skill being taught is the drift itself: turn into a corner, a firm push on the throttle to break the rear loose, then quick counter steering to hold the car sideways while the eyes stay on the road ahead.
- The cars come from the current Mercedes-Benz range and depend on what is available on the day. The list runs across the A-Class, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class, the CLA and CLE, the electric EQ models and the GLA to GLS SUVs.
- Every car runs with two people on board.
Things to Note
- No After Work Drift dates are published at the moment, and no other format is scheduled at Groß Dölln. New dates appear in the training finder and on the After Work Drift page on the operator's website.
- Price: €575 per person for the half day. Prices are margin taxed, so no VAT is shown separately, and every ticket includes a gift.
- Times: 18:00 start with the safety briefing, finishing at 22:00.
- Add ons: none are sold. There is no video, photo, extra session or passenger ride option. Companions must be registered and pay a meal flat rate set per event; they cannot drive and have no right to a passenger ride. Unregistered spectators are not allowed on the training ground.
- Licence: a car licence valid in Germany (class B), no current driving ban, shown on request. Alcohol limit is 0.0 per mille, and a breach means exclusion with no refund. The operator supplies the cars and nobody is promised a specific model.
- Insurance and damage: accident insurance is included for the training (€260,000 on death, €500,000 on invalidity above 33 percent, rescue costs up to €10,000). The driver pays up to €1,000 excess for damage they cause, which the operator can waive when the driver was following instructions; intent, gross negligence or damage outside the comprehensive cover makes the driver liable in full.
- Booking and payment: through the operator's website. The booking only becomes a contract when the separate participation confirmation email arrives. Payment is due within two weeks of the invoice, or straight away when booking within four weeks of the date.
- Cancellation by the participant for summer events: up to 71 days before 10 percent, 70 to 30 days 20 percent, 29 to 8 days 30 percent, 7 to 4 days 60 percent, from 3 days 90 percent. Groups of five or more pay 20 percent up to 90 days, 50 percent from 89 days, 80 percent from 29 days and 90 percent from 13 days. A substitute driver can take the place, and date bound bookings carry no 14 day withdrawal right.
- The operator can cancel up to 14 days out if too few people book (full refund or an equal training) and for weather (fee refunded, own travel costs not).
- Vouchers from €50 to €5,000 are emailed after purchase, valid three years, transferable, and credited against any training.
- Contract partner is BKP GmbH, Unterföhring, on behalf of Mercedes-Benz AG. The booking terms are binding in German.
