Overview

Tank Driving Scotland runs military vehicle driving days at Scart Farm, a working farm at Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire, and says it is the only operator of military vehicle driving experiences in Scotland. The tank is the FV432 tracked armoured personnel carrier, and the fleet also takes in the FV107 Scimitar, armoured Pinzgauer six wheel drives, Land Rover 4x4s, a Fastrac and quad bikes.

Tank drives are sold by level, from New Recruit for beginners through Major General to Brigadier for advanced drivers, plus a Cadet drive for kids aged 9 to 14 years and a drive for two. Combination drives pair the FV432 with a 4x4 or the Fastrac.

It suits first timers, kids old enough for the Cadet drive, stag and hen groups, and families who want to ride along. Drive days run on set Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays through the season.

What to Expect

  • The tank you drive is the FV432, a tracked armoured personnel carrier, on the track at the farm.
  • Drives are pitched by level: New Recruit for beginners, Major General for intermediate drivers and Brigadier for advanced drivers.
  • The Cadet drive puts kids aged 9 to 14 years behind the controls of their own tank drive.
  • Combination drives add a 4x4 or the Fastrac to your FV432 drive.
  • Bringing friends or family? They can watch from the observation area, step into the bunker in the middle of the track for photos and video, or ride in the vehicle as passenger or commander.
  • Best way to experience it: pick the tank drive that matches your level, bring the family to ride along as crew, and use the track centre bunker for the photos.
