Tokyo Z Kart
Overview
Tokyo Z Kart runs guided street kart rides on the public roads of Shibuya from a garage on Sakuragaoka-cho, a 7 minute walk from Shibuya station, and its point of difference is the kart: a custom built electric single seater the company calls the first EV street kart in the business, quiet and fume free, stable enough for someone who has never driven one. The route is the Tokyo everyone recognises: the Scramble Crossing, the Shibuya Sky area, Harajuku, Omotesando and Yoyogi Park, with the guide's vehicle leading and stopping at the photo spots, and the exact line shifting with traffic and weather.
The ride is 50 minutes and costs ¥11,000 per person, one driver per kart with no passengers. A GoPro or a 360 camera can be hired for ¥2,800 each with the SD card included, which is the only add on sold. You arrive 10 minutes early, half an hour if you want to be safe, for the briefing and the licence check, and the ride comes with insurance that is unlimited for third party and property damage and covers the driver's own injury to ¥30,000,000.
The licence check is where overseas visitors get caught. You need a Japanese licence, an International Driving Permit under the Geneva Convention issued within the last two years, or an official translation from one of the recognised bodies; a photo, a copy or a digital licence will be refused and the booking forfeited. Sort that before you book the flight, not at the counter.
