Mini Car Shop Global (ミニカーショップ グローバル)
Overview
Mini Car Shop Global is a diecast specialist on the ground floor of the Yamanaka Building in Komagome, in Tokyo's Toshima ward. Daisuke Imai opened it in October 2005, and the shop and its mail order business still run from the same counter, licensed by the Tokyo Public Safety Commission to deal in secondhand goods.
It is a shop of two halves. New releases and pre orders sit on one side and a deep out of print section on the other, with Japanese road and race cars well represented across both.
Beyond the model cars, the shop brings in pieces direct from overseas, stocks clear display cases and books, and sells original carmaker brochures, the printed catalogues dealers handed out for the real cars. It also takes requests by phone or email to track down a specific model.
What to Expect
- 1:43 and 1:64 carry the shop. Spark, Minichamps, Ebbro and Ignition Model fill the 1:43 side; MINI GT, Tomica Limited Vintage and Hot Wheels fill the 1:64 side. 1:18 is a handful of pieces.
- Tomica is the deepest brand, old and new: current releases, Tomica Limited Vintage, the older 1:43 Tomica Dandy line, and custom commissioned Tomica editions.
- The out of print shelves lean Japanese: Diapet, older Tomica, Ebbro and Ignition Model, next to retired Spark and Minichamps race cars.
- The shop buys collections, from single pieces to large lots, and puts them back on the shelf as out of print stock, so there are genuine odds of a rare find on any visit.
- Themed corners cover Ferrari, Formula 1 and the shop's own tobacco livery versions of race cars, plus buses, trucks, construction machines and police cars.
- The range runs from budget Tomica to a small corner of high end finished models, with a sale section in between.
- The shop's own photos show boxed models stacked in tall glass fronted cabinets along the walls.
