Overview

Fuku Channel is a cafe in Shimasaki, Nishi Ward, on the west side of Kumamoto City, with a minicar shop inside. The manager, Fukuyama, has collected toys since he was a kid, and the cafe doubles as his minicar shop.

It is a cafe first: 15 seats at tables and a counter, and a home style menu of curries, pasta and daily lunches.

Fukuyama also performs rakugo, traditional Japanese comic storytelling, under the stage name Honmarutei Fukusuke, and he takes the minicars on the road to motorsport events and flea markets around Kyushu.

What to Expect

  • The minicars sit in the cafe itself, sharing the room with the tables and the counter.
  • The minicars for sale include models the local press describes as hard to find in Kumamoto.
  • Toys Fukuyama has collected since childhood are on display through the shop, 101 Dalmatians goods among them.
  • The kitchen does five curries, including the house Shimasaki curry made with plenty of ginger, plus Napolitan pasta with a pork hayashi dipping sauce, fried egg and sausage, meat sauce and dry curry pasta, a daily lunch with vegetable and fish dishes, parfaits, ice cream, and cake with drink sets.
  • At Super GT at Autopolis the Fuku Channel stall sells old and new Super GT minicars, recent popular releases and Super GT goods.
  • The Fukusuke's One Car posts on Instagram pick a single model from his collection, from a Majorette NASCAR stock car to his take on what Tomica Limited Vintage models cost now, with his own notes on each one.

Things to Note

  • Open 11:30am to 7:00pm, with last orders at 7:00pm. Closed every Tuesday.
  • Fuku Channel also closes on the days it runs an event stall, and can close early for urgent matters. • Free to walk in and browse the minicars.
  • The hayashi Napolitan is 900 yen, with rice 100 yen extra, tax included.
