Volkswagen Werk Emden
Overview
Volkswagen Werk Emden is a long-established car plant converted to produce fully electric ID.4 and ID.7 models. Visits focus on the press shop, body shop and the harbour loading area while the assembly hall is temporarily closed.
Tours are run by Volkswagen’s visitor service by appointment on weekdays and include a digital site presentation, guided walking access to selected production areas, and practical arrival procedures handled at the main gate.
What to Expect
A guided, appointment-only visit that combines a digital introduction with escorted stops in selected production zones. The assembly hall is currently closed to visitors; VW provides alternative viewing and extras while conversion works continue.
Look out for:
- The press shop and body shop viewing points.
- Harbour-side loading station with ship and logistics views.
- Explanations of the plant’s conversion to electric-vehicle production.
- Restricted areas and no-photography rules enforced throughout the site.
Best way to experience it:
Arrive with photo ID, wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and allow time for individual registration at the main gate. Tours are in German, run Monday–Friday (prebooked) and have limited group sizes, so reserve early if you need a specific date or an English-language arrangement through visitor services.
Things to Note
- Tours are by appointment only and run on weekdays.
- Photography, filming and audio recordings are prohibited inside the plant.
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required for production-area visits.
- All visitors must register individually at the main gate with valid ID; allow extra time for check-in.
