Toyota Automobile Museum
Overview
The Toyota Automobile Museum presents the global history and culture of automobiles with an Automobile Gallery and Cultural Gallery — roughly 140 exhibited vehicles and thousands of related items. Many cars on display are maintained roadworthy, and exhibits span early classics to influential modern models.
The museum is in Nagakute, Aichi, a short walk from Geidai-dori (Linimo) station. Visitor services include English guided tours, a multilingual audio‑guide app, a restaurant, café and a museum shop; check the official site for current admission details and temporary exhibitions.
What to Expect
Start with the Automobile Gallery for a chronological run-through of important cars, then browse the Cultural Gallery for posters, toys and mobility-related artifacts.
Look out for:
- Early European and American classics alongside key Japanese models.
- Vehicles kept in running condition — many look and feel like working cars.
- Rotating special exhibitions that highlight designers, eras or themes.
- On-site restaurant and cafe for a mid-visit break.
Best way to experience it:
Arrive via Linimo to Geidai-dori (station labeled for the museum) and allow 2–3 hours to see both galleries and the cultural displays. Use the free audio guide or join an English guided tour for context on notable cars and designers.
Things to Note
- Open 9:30–17:00 with last admission 16:30; closed Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a public holiday) and New Year holidays.
- Free on-site parking (including EV charging); confirm vehicle/bus space availability for large groups.
- Photography for personal use is generally allowed unless otherwise indicated by signs.
- Check the museum's official site for current admission prices and special exhibition schedules before you go.
