Takasaki Hands (タカサキハンズ)

高崎市, JapanSee opening hoursFree entry

Overview

Takasaki Hands (タカサキハンズ) is an owner run model shop in Minamiorui on the east side of Takasaki, Gunma. Makoto Kubota is the representative, and the shop carries minicars, finished airliners, plastic kits, radio control cars, railway models and Mini 4WD under one roof.

The minicars are the reason a collector makes the trip. The shop's online catalogue lists 826 of them, 1/64 is the biggest scale with 1/43 and 1/18 behind it, and the brand menu runs to 33 makers, European names for the bigger scales beside Japan's Ebbro and Kyosho.

It is a full hobby shop as much as a minicar shop, and it runs its own Mini 4WD race days.

What to Expect

  • 1/64 is the deepest scale: about 305 of the 826 minicars in the catalogue, with MINI GT the biggest single brand at 77 listings, then BM Creations, DCT and Tomica Limited Vintage Neo. Japanese cars dominate, from the Lancer Evolution IV and Suzuki Cappuccino to Liberty Walk bodied Silvias and GR86s.
  • 1/43 is the European classics and rally shelf, around 156 listings: Ixo rally cars including the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, plus Norev, Minichamps, Spark, Schuco, Brumm, Best, NEO and Vitesse in the shop's brand menu, with older road cars like the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and Mercedes W111 280 SE.
  • 1/18 runs to around 88 listings from makers like Sun Star, Oxford, Motor City, otto mobile, Norev and Ixo, with American classics and Japanese icons such as the JGTC Supra.
  • Finished airliners in 1/200, 1/400 and 1/130 from Herpa, Gemini, Hogan, Hobby Master and the airlines' own ranges, plus Tetsudo Collection trains in 1/150 and 1/160 and finished military aircraft and vehicles.
  • Plastic kits fill the rest of the floor, boxes stacked almost to the ceiling in the style of an old fashioned Japanese model shop, alongside RC cars, wooden ship kits, air guns, paints, compressors and modelling tools.

Things to Note

  • Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00am to 8:00pm. Closed Mondays, except when a Monday is a public holiday, when the shop opens.
  • Entry is free. Online catalogue prices include tax, and 1/64 models start at ¥1,375.
  • The website and the shop floor sell from the same stock, so a model listed online can sell out over the counter first.
  • Getting there: the nearest rail stations are Kuragano (JR Takasaki and Hachiko lines) and Takasaki (Shinkansen and JR lines).
  • Mini 4WD race days (ミニ四大会) are marked on the calendar on the shop's website.
  • Online orders pay by credit card, bank transfer or cash on delivery and ship within Japan by Yamato Transport.
  • This is a small owner run shop: call ahead on +81 27 353 0705 or email info@t-hands.com to confirm hours or ask about a model.
