Racing in Italy Imola
Overview
Racing in Italy is a race team from near Milan, run by team principal Oren Shibi, that sells seats in the cars it races. At Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola it runs full day track days in three single seaters: a Dallara GP2 car sold as a Formula 2, Dallara Formula 3s with VW Spiess engines, and a Mygale Formula 4 with an Alpine engine. The team brings its mechanics, an engineer on the telemetry and a professional race driver as coach.
The rest of the Imola menu is a GT track day in a Mercedes AMG or an Audi R8, and a paid seat in the team's Formula 3 or Formula 4 at the Drexler Cup round, a full race weekend. The Formula 2 car has history here: it raced at Imola in the BossGP series.
The team's workshop is in Vigevano, and its beginner courses and supercar test drives run at its home circuit at Castelletto di Branduzzo, south of Milan, which has its own listing.
What to Expect
- The Formula 2 is a 2005 Dallara GP2 car with a 4.0 litre Mecachrome V8 of about 630 hp, a Hewland six speed sequential gearbox and 688 kg. Its BossGP racing took in Imola, Monza, Mugello, Misano, Spa and the Red Bull Ring.
- The Formula 3 is a Dallara F308 with 245 hp or the newer F318 with 248 hp, both VW Spiess engines with paddle shift. The team says its F308 was driven by Daniel Ricciardo in the 2008 Formula 3 season.
- The Formula 4 is a 2018 Mygale with a 2.0 litre Alpine engine making 165 hp and a six speed sequential gearbox on paddles. It raced in Danish F4.
- The GT option is a Mercedes AMG or an Audi R8, both 2023 cars prepared for the GT cup in the FX Italian Series.
- The formula cars are single seaters, so the coaching happens in the garage: after each session the coach goes through your telemetry and onboard video, shows where to brake and turn in, and the mechanics change the setup before the next run.
- The team arrives the day before to unload and prepare the cars. The morning starts with an internal briefing on the car and the circuit, then the day follows the circuit's session timetable on an active track with other cars, marshals and strict timing.
- The Drexler Cup weekend is a real race programme: seat fitting on arrival, two free practice sessions with a debrief after each, qualifying, the races and the trophies.
Things to Note
- How it runs: Imola runs as dated blocks on the team's season calendar, not daily sessions. In 2026 the track days ran on 19 and 20 September and the Drexler Cup race weekend on 24 to 26 April. Dates come from the team.
- Track day prices, per person: Formula 2 €39,000 for 4 to 5 sessions of about 25 minutes. Formula 3 €13,900 in the F308 or €16,400 in the F318 (the Italian language shop shows €15,400 for the F318), 4 to 5 sessions of about 25 minutes. Formula 4 €7,890 for 4 to 5 sessions of 20 minutes. GT €9,500 for 4 to 5 sessions of 25 minutes.
- What the track days include: the race team, mechanics and setup, a professional coach, telemetry, onboard video, transponder timing, fuel and transport of the car. The Formula 2 and Formula 3 days add a theory course and a helmet with microphone, gloves and suit. The Formula 4 day adds a used tyre set and circuit admission. The GT day adds used tyres, circuit admission, lunch and an aperitif.
- Race weekend prices, per race at the Drexler Cup round: Formula 4 €15,000. Formula 3 €23,700 in the F308 or €30,700 in the F318, which the team puts at five days with the team, three days at the circuit and more than 6 hours and 300 km of driving. Both include lunch and aperitif, tyres (one used set and one new set, plus a rain set for the Formula 3), storage, maintenance and car transport. Circuit admission for the driver is not included.
- Add ons: a new tyre set on the Formula 4 day at €1,800, extra new sets at race weekends at €1,450, racing licence assistance at €1,700, and driver and car insurance sold by the team (or full cover arranged through GULLWING). Drivers bringing their own race car can buy the team's services instead: mechanic €350, telemetry €450, professional coach €500, full support pack in northern Italy €1,450.
- Who can drive: the Formula 2 and Formula 3 days are only for drivers who have already driven a formula car. The Formula 4 and GT days accept entry level drivers, and the team recommends its racing course first. The team says a racing licence is required at most of the famous circuits. Race weekends need an INT C licence for the formula cars, and the GT needs a C licence, which the team helps obtain. Anyone booking must be 18 years of age or older.
- Size limits: the Formula 4 and the formula race weekends take drivers up to 185 cm and 85 kg, with height stated when ordering. The GT takes drivers up to 200 cm and 95 kg.
- Deposit and damage: Formula 2 and Formula 3 track days carry a €10,000 deposit, which the team states is the most charged after an accident. The Formula 4 day carries a €7,000 deposit unless car insurance is bought, and the GT day and race weekends €20,000 unless insurance is bought. Damage the driver causes to the car or a third party is charged under the list attached to the waiver signed before going on track, personal injury sits with the driver's own insurance, and international visitors declare the activity to their own insurer.
- Gear: the GT day and the race weekends do not include gear, so an FIA approved helmet, HANS, gloves, suit, shoes and underwear are the driver's own. Gear can be bought through the team with a month's notice.
- Not included: travel, accommodation and any meals beyond those listed.
- Weather: the Formula 4 runs only on a dry track and does not run in snow, heavy rain or on a frozen track, with the day postponed or fully refunded. The Formula 2 runs in light and heavy rain under the circuit organiser's rules.
- Cancellation: the Formula 4 day at Imola, the GT day and race weekends up to 1 month before. Formula 2 and Formula 3 track days up to 2 weeks before the organiser's registration closes, under the organiser's refund policy. Date changes are free when asked more than 2 days ahead, and subject to availability after that.
- Booking: book and pay online on the team's shop before the day; cards are not taken at the circuit. The Formula 4 day takes up to 3 drivers per event. For a gift, write YES and the preferred date at checkout and fill in the voucher form; gift cards are sold in the same shop. - On the day: the team's box number is on the main board at the circuit entrance, and the crew wears yellow.
