Racing in Italy Hockenheim
Overview
Racing in Italy is a race team from near Milan, run by team principal Oren Shibi, that sells seats in the cars it races. In Germany it takes three of its single seaters to the Hockenheimring for full day track days: a Dallara GP2 car sold as a Formula 2, Dallara Formula 3s with VW Spiess engines, and a Mygale Formula 4 with an Alpine engine. Each car comes with the team's mechanics, an engineer on the telemetry and a professional race driver as coach.
The fourth product here is a GT track day in a Mercedes AMG or an Audi R8, both built for the GT cup the team runs in the FX Italian Series. None of the championship rounds the team raced in 2026 was held at this circuit, so there is no race weekend seat to buy, and the team's motorcycle days run elsewhere.
The town sits south of Mannheim and Heidelberg. The team's offices and workshop are in Vigevano, and its beginner courses and supercar test drives run at its home circuit at Castelletto di Branduzzo, south of Milan, which has its own listing.
What to Expect
- The Formula 2 is a 2005 Dallara GP2 car running a 2008 setup, with a 4.0 litre Mecachrome V8 of about 630 hp, a Hewland six speed sequential gearbox and a weight of 688 kg. It raced in the BossGP series.
- The Formula 3 is a Dallara on a VW Spiess engine in one of two versions: the F308 with 245 hp, 465 kg and a Drexler six speed paddle shift, or the later F318 with 248 hp, 500 kg and a Hewland paddle shift. The team says its F308 is the car Daniel Ricciardo raced in the 2008 Formula 3 season.
- The Formula 4 is a 2018 Mygale with a 2.0 litre Alpine engine making 165 hp and a SADEV six speed sequential gearbox on paddles. It raced in Danish F4.
- The GT is a Mercedes AMG or an Audi R8, both 2023 cars built for the FX Italian Series GT cup.
- The three formula cars are single seaters, so you are alone in the car. The coaching happens in the garage: after each run the coach puts your telemetry and onboard video on screen, goes through the braking and turn in points, and the mechanics change the setup before you go out again.
- Every session is timed on a transponder and filmed onboard, and the Formula 2 and Formula 3 footage comes with the telemetry laid over it.
- The crew and cars arrive the day before to unload and prepare. The morning starts with a briefing on the car and the circuit, then the day follows the circuit's own session timetable on a live track shared with other cars, with marshals and strictly timed sessions.
Things to Note
- How it runs: Hockenheim is a dated stop on the team's season calendar, not a daily operation. In 2026 the track days ran on 26 and 27 May, with an extra Formula 2 day on 8 May. Dates come from the team.
- Track day prices, per person, at the team's rates for circuits outside Italy: Formula 2 €39,000 for 4 to 5 sessions of about 25 minutes. Formula 3 €16,400 in the F308 or €19,900 in the F318, for 4 to 5 sessions of about 25 minutes. Formula 4 €9,490 for 4 to 5 sessions of 20 minutes. GT €15,500 for 4 to 5 sessions of 25 minutes.
- What the days include: the race team, mechanics and setup, a professional coach, telemetry, onboard video, transponder timing, fuel and transport of the car. The Formula 2 and Formula 3 days add a theory course and practical racing course from professional drivers, plus a helmet with microphone, gloves and a suit. The Formula 4 day adds a used tyre set and circuit admission for the driver. The GT day adds used tyres, circuit admission, lunch and an aperitif.
- Add ons: a new tyre set on the Formula 4 day at €1,800, racing licence assistance at €1,700, and driver and car insurance sold by the team (or full cover arranged through GULLWING). Onboard video is included, not sold on top. Drivers bringing their own race car can buy the team's services on their own: mechanic €350, telemetry €450, professional coach €500.
- Who can drive: the Formula 2 and Formula 3 days are only for drivers who have already driven a formula car. The Formula 4 and GT days take entry level drivers, and the team recommends its racing course first. The team says a racing licence is required at most of the famous circuits, and the Formula 4 page notes some circuits take a licence of any level. The GT day lists a C licence as not included, which the team helps obtain. Anyone booking must be 18 years of age or older.
- Size limits: the Formula 4 takes drivers up to 185 cm and 85 kg, with height given when ordering. The GT takes drivers up to 200 cm and 95 kg.
- Gear: on the Formula 4 day the team's FAQ says formula drivers are given a helmet, gloves and racing shoes, plus a suit at most circuits. The GT day includes no gear, so an FIA approved helmet, HANS, gloves, suit, shoes and underwear are the driver's own. Race gear can be bought through the team with a month's notice.
- Deposit and damage: the Formula 2 and Formula 3 days carry a €10,000 deposit, which the team states is the most charged after an accident. The Formula 4 day carries a €7,000 deposit and the GT day €20,000, each unless the team's car insurance is bought. Damage the driver causes to the car or a third party is charged under the list attached to the waiver signed before going on track, personal injury sits with the driver's own insurance, and international visitors declare the activity to their own insurer.
- Not included: travel, accommodation and any meals beyond those listed.
- Weather: the Formula 4 runs only on a dry track and does not run in snow, heavy rain or on a frozen track, with the day postponed or fully refunded. The Formula 2 runs in light and heavy rain under the circuit organiser's rules.
- Cancellation: the Formula 4 day and the GT day at Hockenheim up to 1 month before. The Formula 2 and Formula 3 days up to 2 weeks before the organiser's registration closes, under the organiser's refund policy. Date changes are free when asked more than 2 days ahead and subject to availability after that.
- Booking: book and pay online on the team's shop before the day; cards are not taken at the circuit. The Formula 4 day takes up to 3 drivers per event. For a gift, write YES and the preferred date at checkout and fill in the voucher form; gift cards are sold in the same shop. Questions go to +39 02 8088 9801, WhatsApp +39 328 596 9126 or info@racinginitaly.com.
- On the day: the team's box number is posted on the main board at the circuit entrance, and the crew wears yellow.
