Muzeum středního Pootaví Strakonice
Overview
Housed in the medieval Strakonice Castle, Muzeum středního Pootaví documents local history, folk traditions and industry from the surrounding South Bohemian region. Permanent displays include ethnography, bagpipe traditions, ČZ motorcycles and a historic chapel and kitchen inside the castle.
The museum is a regional contributory organization that also manages the historic water mill complex in Hoslovice and runs exhibitions, educational programs and occasional cultural events across its sites.
What to Expect
Short guided routes through castle rooms and thematic displays focusing on rural life, crafts and local industry.
Look out for:
- The capitular hall with wall paintings and the “black kitchen.”
- The Rumpál lookout tower for panoramic views over Strakonice.
- Exhibits on local bagpipe (dudácké) traditions and traditional headwear.
- The ČZ motorcycle and weapons displays and historical models.
Best way to experience it:
Allow time to explore the castle rooms first, then plan a separate visit to the Hoslovice mill complex if interested in historic technology and working-mill demonstrations. Check the museum website for current temporary exhibitions and event schedules.
