Museo Storico Alfa Romeo
Overview
The Museo Storico Alfa Romeo is the brand's official museum, on the site of the old Arese factory just outside Milan. It opened in 1976 and was reborn in 2015 under architect Benedetto Camerana's striking red canopy, which you can spot from the autostrada. In December 2026 it turns 50, with anniversary events running through the year.
About 70 cars from a collection of more than 250 fill six floors across three themes: Timeline, one of every era of Alfa road car from the 1910 A.L.F.A. 24 HP onward; Bellezza, the design masterpieces including the 33 Stradale and the Duetto from The Graduate; and Velocità, the racing floor where the Alfetta 158 and 159 sit, the cars that won the first two Formula 1 world championships in 1950 and 1951, alongside the 1925 P2 and the 8C 2900B Le Mans.
This is one of the world's great single-marque museums, and the Sunday depot tour opens the vaults where the other 180 cars live.
What to Expect
A polished, modern museum experience: escalator up, then a broadly chronological walk down through the themed floors, with a helix of light running through the building to tie it together.
Look out for:
- The Alfetta 158 and 159: winners of the first two F1 world championships, Farina in 1950 and Fangio in 1951. Ground zero for Formula 1.
- The 33 Stradale, a 700 kg, 2.0 V8 jewel routinely called the most beautiful road car ever made.
- The 8C 2900B Le Mans and the 1925 P2 world champion.
- The Carabo, the 1968 wedge concept that previewed the next 30 years of supercar design.
- The Duetto spider from The Graduate in the Bellezza wing.
- The depot tour (Sundays 3pm, €8 plus entry): the storage floors holding the 180 or so cars not on display, plus engines, trophies, even an aeroplane. Book ahead; it is the enthusiast's version of the visit.
Allow 90 minutes to 2 hours for the museum, half a day with the depot tour. The on-site Alfa Romeo Caffè & Bistrò handles lunch. One honest note: headline cars travel to events like Goodwood and Pebble Beach, so a specific car can be away.
