Overview

Mercedes-Benz Driving Events is the official Mercedes-Benz driver training programme, run by the events company BKP GmbH of Unterföhring near Munich on behalf of Mercedes-Benz AG. At the Sachsenring it has run four formats, all in cars it supplies. The headline is the Mercedes-Benz Track Drive, which mixes safety stations, a drive on public roads and a session on the race track.

The other three are road safety courses: the half day Compact Training for first timers, the one day Advanced Training built on simulated dangerous traffic situations, and the two day Perfection Training, the most demanding safety course the operator sells. The fleet runs from the CLA and C-Class up to the AMG GT, with the electric EQS SUV and EQE SUV on the Track Drive.

The Sachsenring is the circuit at Oberlungwitz in Saxony where the German motorcycle Grand Prix is held. The same team runs days at the Nürburgring, the Hockenheimring and other German venues, and on ice in Austria and Sweden.

What to Expect

  • The cars come from Mercedes-Benz and depend on what is available on the day. The safety courses list the AMG GLC, AMG C-Class, the electric GLC, the E-Class and C-Class saloons and estates, the CLE and the CLA. Every car runs with two people on board.
  • The Track Drive opens with a safety briefing, then works through dynamic driving stations with instructors in small groups, a drive on public roads and a session on the Sachsenring as the highlight.
  • Mercedes-Benz product trainers run a workshop on the Track Drive covering charging, the safety systems and the cars' technology.
  • The Track Drive fleet is the widest in the programme: AMG GT, AMG GLC, AMG CLE and AMG C-Class next to the electric EQS SUV, EQE SUV, GLC, GLB and CLA, the CLE and the C-Class saloon.
  • Compact Training is the entry course, built on three basics: seating position, controlled steering and precise pedal work. It is aimed at drivers brushing up their skills and at people trying the programme for the first time.
  • Advanced Training is a full day of simulated dangerous traffic situations, with the group working out together how to drive out of each one.
  • Perfection Training is two days spent finding the dynamic limit of the car, so the reactions carry over into everyday traffic. It is the hardest safety course in the operator's range.

Things to Note

  • No Sachsenring dates are published at the moment. New dates appear in the operator's training finder (Trainings Konfigurator) and on each training's own page.
  • Prices per person, as the operator sells each format: Compact Training €310, Mercedes-Benz Track Drive €555, Advanced Training €630, Perfection Training €1,760. Prices are margin taxed, so no VAT is shown separately, and every ticket includes a gift.
  • Times: Compact Training runs 08:30 to 12:45 in the morning or 13:30 to 17:45 in the afternoon. Advanced Training runs 08:30 to 17:15. The Track Drive runs 09:30 to 17:00. Perfection Training starts at 08:30 on day one and finishes at 17:00 on day two.
  • Included: lunch on the Track Drive and the Advanced Training. Perfection Training includes lunch on both days, dinner, an overnight stay and breakfast.
  • Add ons: none are sold. There is no video, photo, extra session or passenger ride option. Companions must be registered and pay a meal flat rate set per event; they cannot drive and have no right to a passenger ride. Unregistered spectators are not allowed on the training ground.
  • Licence: a car licence valid in Germany (class B), no current driving ban, shown on request. The alcohol limit is 0.0 per mille, and a breach means exclusion with no refund. The operator supplies the cars and nobody is promised a specific model.
  • Insurance and damage: accident insurance is included for the training (€260,000 on death, €500,000 on invalidity above 33 percent, rescue costs up to €10,000). The driver pays up to €1,000 excess for damage they cause, which the operator can waive when the driver was following the instructor; intent, gross negligence or damage outside the comprehensive cover makes the driver liable in full.
  • Booking and payment: booking is online on each training's page, and it only becomes a contract when the separate participation confirmation arrives. Payment is due within two weeks of the invoice, or straight away when booking within four weeks of the date.
  • Cancellation by the participant for summer events: up to 71 days before 10 percent, 70 to 30 days 20 percent, 29 to 8 days 30 percent, 7 to 4 days 60 percent, from 3 days 90 percent. Groups of five or more pay 20 percent up to 90 days, 50 percent from 89 days, 80 percent from 29 days and 90 percent from 13 days. A substitute driver can take the place, and date bound bookings carry no 14 day withdrawal right.
  • The operator can cancel up to 14 days out if too few people book (full refund or an equal training) and for weather (fee refunded, own travel costs not).
  • Vouchers from €50 to €5,000 are emailed straight after purchase, valid three years, transferable, and credited against any training.
  • Contract partner is BKP GmbH, Unterföhring, on behalf of Mercedes-Benz AG. The booking terms are binding in German.
