2027 IMSA Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear
About This Event
IMSA's GTP prototypes and GTD PRO cars race through downtown Detroit on a 1.7 mile, nine turn street circuit with a double sided pit lane. The lap opens with a 0.7 mile straight down Jefferson Avenue into a wide hairpin at Turn 3, then runs onto Atwater Street for a back straight beside the Detroit River.
What to Expect
- Friday 4 June is IMSA practice and qualifying, with IndyCar and INDY NXT practice. Saturday 5 June is the IMSA race, the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, with IndyCar and INDY NXT practice and qualifying around it. Sunday 6 June is the INDY NXT and IndyCar races.
- The IMSA race is a 100 minute sprint for two classes, GTP prototypes and GTD PRO GT cars.
- The paddock is where the transporters park and the teams work on the cars, close enough to watch the GTP cars being prepared.
- Four parking garage rooftops along the circuit are viewing areas with big screens, and one Rooftop Viewing ticket moves between all four.
Best Way to Experience It
- Friday (Free Prix Day) is IMSA practice and qualifying, with first come first served seating and no paddock access.
- Saturday is IMSA race day. A reserved grandstand seat or a Rooftop Viewing ticket also opens the paddock.
- The Turn 3 Club is a padded trackside seat or table at the hairpin with catered food, beer and wine, and it includes the paddock and the rooftops.
- Two day tickets cover Saturday and Sunday and three day tickets the whole weekend, which adds Sunday's IndyCar race to the IMSA race.
Good to Know
- Driving: The Huntington Place garages at the west end of the venue (Washington Blvd Garage at 1 Washington Blvd and the Roof Deck at 625 W Congress) open 6am to 10pm Friday to Sunday at US$35 a day (2027), paid on arrival. Franklin Garage is the only venue garage open to the public: advance sale only, an admission ticket is needed, and it was US$100 for Saturday in 2026. The Park Detroit App pre sells other downtown parking.
- Public transport: The Detroit People Mover, the downtown loop, stops at Millender Center and GM Renaissance Center, inside the buildings next to the tunnel over Jefferson Avenue.

- Gates and reentry: Reentry to grandstands and rooftops needs the ticket and wristband. Items cannot be checked or held at the gates, and anything left there is thrown away.
- Bringing things in: Bags and coolers up to 12 x 12 x 12 inches, all searched. No alcohol, glass or open containers. No chairs outside the tailgating spots, flat seat cushions up to 18 inches only. Umbrellas are allowed but not in grandstands or on viewing platforms. No video recording devices, tripods or drones.
