2027 World of Outlaws Late Models Rocky Top Rumble
Volunteer Speedway · Bulls Gap, United States19 Mar 20271 day
About This Event
Volunteer Speedway calls itself the World's Fastest Dirt Track: a 0.4 mile oval banked at 32 degrees in Bulls Gap, Tennessee, nicknamed The Gap. The World of Outlaws Late Models bring one night of racing to those high banks.
What to Expect
- One night of World of Outlaws Late Model racing on Friday 19 March, from the touring field the series bills as The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet
- The series' official ticket page lists the start at 7pm local time
- The track's fastest recorded lap is 10.258 seconds, 140.378 mph (about 226 km/h), set by Kasey Kahne during a World of Outlaws weekend
- Knoxville, the nearest big city, averages about 16°C (61°F) by day and 4°C (40°F) overnight in March, on NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals
Best Way to Experience It
- Main grandstand seats face the front straightaway; the pit pass opens the pits through the pit gate on the backstretch, and the Tier Vehicle Pass parks the car in the tier area
- Coolers are allowed in the backside pits and tier parking but not in the front straightaway grandstands, so the pit pass or the Tier Vehicle Pass suits anyone bringing their own food and drink
- The series races the Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville the next night, Saturday 20 March, and puts the drive between the two tracks at about 90 minutes
Good to Know
- Driving: Bulls Gap is north east of Knoxville, and the speedway is at Exit 23 (Bulls Gap and Greeneville) on Interstate 81. Coming down Interstate 81 from the Virginia line, turn right onto Highway 11E at the bottom of the ramp and the entrance is about 200 yards (180 m) on the left; coming up from the Interstate 40 split east of Knoxville, turn left, pass under the interstate, and the entrance is about 300 yards (270 m) on the left
- Public transport: the series names Tri Cities Regional Airport as the closest airport, with McGhee Tyson Airport at Knoxville as the other option
- Rideshare and taxis: Uber lists Morristown and Greeneville, the towns either side of Bulls Gap, and Lyft lists Knoxville and Johnson City
- Best value route: Tri Cities Regional is the closer of the two airports the series names, and Interstate 81 runs from that side straight to Exit 23
- Tickets: from US$35 for adult general admission at the advance price, which ends 18 March; advance tickets sell online through the series' Tickets.com page or by phone on 844 347 8849
- Cash and cards: the speedway's own ticket windows take cash only, with no credit or debit cards and no cheques
- Bringing things in: glass is not allowed in the backside pits or tier parking, and lawn chairs are not allowed at touring series late model events like this one
