2027 MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix of the United States
About This Event
MotoGP races in the United States once a year, and it happens here, at the first purpose built Grand Prix circuit in the country. Circuit of The Americas outside Austin packs 20 corners into 5.5 km, with sections modelled on Silverstone, Hockenheim and Istanbul Park, and general admission spreads the crowd across grass hillsides that look over much of the lap.
What to Expect
- 2027 is the first MotoGP season on 850cc engines, down from 1000cc, with ride height and holeshot devices banned and Pirelli taking over from Michelin as the tyre supplier.
- MotoGP headlines, with Moto2 confirmed for 2027 among the support races.
- The MotoGP weekend format puts practice for every class on Friday, qualifying and the Sprint on Saturday and the Grand Prix on Sunday. 2027 session times are not yet announced by the organiser.
- The crowd travels: in 2026 about 27% of fans came from Texas, 13% from Austin itself and nearly 10% from overseas.
- Late April in Austin averages highs of 27 to 28°C (81 to 83°F) and lows of 16 to 18°C (61 to 64°F), with a 20 to 25% chance of a wet day and the air getting more humid through the month.
Best Way to Experience It
- Friday is practice day for every class, which leaves time to walk the general admission hillsides and settle on a spot for the Saturday Sprint and the Sunday race.
- Grounds pass holders watch from the hillsides, and big screens are placed around the circuit for the parts of the lap out of sight.
- Reserved seating in 2026 was the Main Grandstand facing the start and finish, plus seats at Turn 1 and Turn 15. The 2027 MotoGP Premier packages include a Turn 15 option.
- A Marc Marquez Fan Zone is ticketed separately, and COTA says 2027 tickets will be available at a later date.
Good to Know
- Driving: COTA is southeast of downtown Austin. From Austin, the TX-130 toll road south leads to Exit 451 (Elroy Rd) for lots C to H, K, L, R and S, or Exit 453 (FM-812) for lots A, N and T. Every car parking on site needs a parking pass bought in advance, and COTA points grounds pass holders to lots A and T. 2027 parking prices are not yet announced.
- Public transport: COTA publishes no public transport route to the circuit, and there were no off site shuttles for MotoGP weekend in 2026. COTA does publish a bike route map to the circuit.
- Rideshare and taxis: Uber and Lyft both operate in Austin. Rideshare drops off and picks up at the McAngus Lot, a 15 minute walk from the Grand Plaza gates, and a free tram runs from McAngus to the box office near the Grand Plaza. Rideshare cars are not allowed on COTA Blvd on race weekends.
- Best value route: Riding in costs least: motorcycles parked free in Lot H in 2026, while every car needs a paid pass. Without your own vehicle, rideshare to the McAngus Lot is the only route COTA publishes.
- Tickets: 2027 three day general admission grounds passes are on sale through COTA on Ticketmaster, listed at US$114 including fees on COTA's grounds pass page in October 2026. Reserved grandstand seats and MotoGP Premier packages are sold on the official MotoGP ticket page.
- Bringing things in: Bags up to 12 x 12 x 20 inches. Coolers, thermoses, glass and outside food and drink, alcohol included, cannot be brought in. Collapsible chairs and small handheld umbrellas are allowed, and drones are banned on all COTA property, car parks included.
- Food and drink: Alcohol is sold at designated concessions to buyers aged 21 years and over, two drinks per person per ID, with sales stopping about 30 minutes before the day ends. COTA takes American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa.
- Camping: COTA runs Premium RV camping on paved sites on the back straight between Turns 11 and 12, and Lot N dry camping on gravel and grass near Gate 3, each site about 40 by 20 feet with one vehicle pass. Camping does not include race admission. 2027 camping dates and prices are not yet announced.
