2027 Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix
About This Event
The United States Grand Prix opens with an uphill charge into Turn 1, a corner so wide that drivers can take several different lines through it at the start, and it stays one of the lap's overtaking spots all race. The 5.513 km lap behind it borrows from two classics: Turns 3 to 6 echo Silverstone's high speed Maggotts and Becketts, and Turns 12 to 15 mimic Hockenheim's stadium section.
What to Expect
- Round 19 of 24 and a standard weekend with no Sprint: two practice sessions on Friday 22 October, final practice and qualifying on Saturday 23 October, and the Grand Prix on Sunday 24 October. Session times are not yet published. Mexico City follows a week later.
- The lap has 20 corners, 11 left and 9 right, with 130 feet of elevation change across the circuit.
- Formula 1's 2027 ticket page promises headline concerts on the circuit's own amphitheatre stage every evening of the weekend. The 2027 line up is not yet announced.
- Away from the track the weekend fills with brand activations and rides. (Our experience in 2024: a Hummer EV off road ride, roller coasters for adults and kids, historic Formula 1 cars on track and race exclusive Topps cards.)
- October in Austin averages a high of 28°C (82.5°F) and a low of 16°C (60.8°F), with rain on about seven days of the month.
Best Way to Experience It
- For close racing, Formula 1 points to the Stadium Section stands at Turns 15 and 16. (Our experience in 2024: we sat in the Turn 1 grandstand, which looks down the main straight into the first corner, but the big screen was far away and hard to read.)
- Use Friday to walk the general admission areas and pick up race merchandise and collectables early. (Our experience in 2024: the merchandise stands near the fan zone were selling out of stock, and the Topps card line was short early on.)
- Plan crossings to the inside of the track ahead of each session. (Our experience in 2024: the bridges over the track were packed and getting to the infield was slow.)
- The COTA observation tower rises over the circuit. (Our experience in 2024: the Turn 1 grandstand already gave a similar view.)
Good to Know
- Driving: The circuit is southeast of downtown Austin. From Austin, the circuit's directions take TX 130 south (a toll road) to exit 451 for Elroy Road or exit 453 for FM 812, depending on the lot. Every car parking on site needs a parking pass bought in advance, and 2027 parking passes and prices are not yet published.
- Public transport: The way in without a car is the circuit's own paid shuttle bus, which runs on a dedicated bus lane to the front gate drop off. 2027 pickup points, times and prices are not yet published.
- Rideshare and taxis: Uber (including Waymo autonomous rides through the Uber app) and Lyft both operate in Austin. Rideshare drops and picks up at the McAngus Lot, with a free tram to the Ticketmaster box office, because rideshare cars are not allowed on COTA Boulevard on race weekends.
- Best value route: No price comparison is possible until 2027 shuttle, parking and rideshare details are out; the shuttle is the only way in that runs on its own lane to the front gate, while rideshare ends at the McAngus Lot tram and drivers need a parking pass.
- Tickets: 2027 tickets are not on sale yet. The circuit takes deposits through Ticketmaster that lock in its lowest early bird pricing, and Formula 1's own ticketing site runs a waitlist.
- Bringing things in: Bags up to 12 x 12 x 20 inches, all screened, and reentry is allowed during motorsport events. One empty water bottle up to 32 oz, not glass. Collapsible chairs and small hand held umbrellas are allowed; coolers, outside food and drink, tents, tripods, monopods, detachable telephoto lenses and drones are not.
- Cash and cards: The circuit accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa; cash is mentioned only for some on the day parking in designated lots.

Is This Event Right For You?
- Do I need a ticket to watch? Yes. 2027 tickets are not on sale yet; deposits are open on the circuit's site and lock in its lowest early bird pricing.
- Suitable for kids? Children 3 years of age and older need their own ticket, for general admission or a reserved seat.
- Does it run in rain? Yes, every motorsport event at the circuit runs rain or shine. Lightning and severe weather updates go out over the PA, the video boards and the circuit's social media.
- Living with a disability? Accessible seating is in the Main Grandstand and the Turn 12 and Turn 15 grandstands, requested at purchase through Ticketmaster or the box office. Accessible parking needs a state disabled placard or plate and is first come, first served, and mobility scooters are allowed on the grounds.
Cost Breakdown
MY COST BREAKDOWN IN 2024: Turn 1 grandstand ticket US$1,250 · Car hire 8 days US$494.44 · Fuel US$41.93 · Tolls US$5 · Parking 3 days US$150 · Food at the track US$107.50 · Merchandise including the programme US$219. Verdict: pricey for one person, worth doing once, and much cheaper split with a group.
