About This Event
Supercars' official support category slot at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix since 1996 — four 100km sprint races across the Grand Prix weekend on the 5.3km Albert Park street circuit. The winner across all four races takes home the Larry Perkins Trophy, named for the Australian touring car and F1 driver.
What to Expect
- Supercars racing all four days of the Grand Prix weekend
- First three races run 19 laps each; fourth race shortens to 14 laps
- 5.3-kilometer circuit around Albert Park Lake with 16 turns
- Track mixes public roads with reconstructed racing sections and gravel run-off areas
- Motorsport Straight precinct offers open Supercars paddock access with your Grand Prix ticket
Best Way to Experience It
- Turn 1 at the end of the main straight concentrates overtaking action
- Thursday tickets grant access to all grandstands unreserved for exploring views
Good to Know
- Tram and train travel free between city and Albert Park with Grand Prix ticket
- No public parking available at circuit; temporary restrictions apply in surrounding streets
- New Anzac Station provides eight-minute walk to Gate 5 via free train service
- Children aged 14 and under enter free when accompanied by paying adult
- Melbourne weather can shift dramatically during the weekend
Is This Event Right For You?
- Best fit if you enjoy championship racing — Round 2 of Repco Supercars Championship features four 100km races across Thursday-Sunday, points accumulation for Larry Perkins Trophy, full championship status since 2018.
- Best fit if you value street circuit environments — 5.3km temporary road course using normally public roads around Albert Park Lake, 2km from Melbourne CBD with tram access, medium-to-high-speed characteristics on smooth asphalt.
- Best fit if you enjoy multi-category motorsport weekends — bundled with Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix means access to F1 practice/qualifying/race, nightly concerts, off-track entertainment across four-day A$385 park pass.
- Not ideal if you prefer Supercars-focused events — support category format gives limited Supercars track time within F1 schedule priority, rather than dedicated championship rounds featuring longer sessions, paddock emphasis, Supercars-centric programming.
