Discover Senegal's Automotive Experiences

From the legendary Dakar Rally's West African roots to the red laterite tracks of Casamance and the Atlantic coast piste runs, Senegal is the raw, beating heart of African motorsport adventure.

Overview

Senegal carries a motorsport identity unlike anywhere else on the continent. For decades, Dakar — the capital — was the finish line of the world's most gruelling rally raid, and that heritage runs deep in the local culture. Mechanics, navigators and support crews built careers here, and the sight of modified trucks, buggies and rally cars became woven into the city's fabric. Even after the race relocated, the spirit never left: local rally and off-road events continue to draw competitors across the region, and the Senegalese enthusiasm for motorsport remains genuine and grassroots.

Beyond the motorsport story, Senegal rewards drivers willing to get off the tarmac. The route south through the Sine-Saloum Delta and on into Casamance opens up a world of elevated piste driving — river crossings, baobab-lined tracks and coastal sand roads that demand capable vehicles and reward with extraordinary scenery. The RN1 north toward Saint-Louis traces the edge of the Sahel, while the Cap-Vert Peninsula loops around Dakar's dramatic volcanic headland. Car culture in Dakar itself is vibrant and visible: the city's garages, improvised workshops and the colour-saturated world of the sept-place bush taxi define a uniquely Senegalese relationship with the automobile — functional, resourceful and full of character.
